Newburyport is a coastal community of 17,800 residents, situated on the Merrimack River in Essex County, MA, just minutes from I-95. 35 miles north of Boston and just south of the NH/MA state line, Newburyport is a beautiful historic maritime community and birthplace of the U.S. Coast Guard.
Developers had wanted to modernize the city, but the community came together to revitalize the city and maintain it historic character. It now, as some say, is in its renaissance period, experience growth and prosperity – buildings have been revitalized and filled with a variety of locally owned businesses. www.newburyportguide.com; www.newburyportchamber.com.
Spiritually there is a great need. Hope Community Church is the only evangelical church present in the city, while there are a variety of mainline denominations. New congregations are needed to reach the 17,000+ in the city. That number jumps to nearly 50,000 when the surrounding communities are added. Since there are few evangelical churches north of Boston, this is an important city for reaching the seacoast region for Christ.
We are praying to the Lord of the Harvest to raise up church planters to reach the city of Newburyport, MA with the transforming power of the Gospel. Perhaps you are that church planter.
